14 DAY TRIAL // Today, Yahoo Korea posted a pornographic clip that was available for 5 hours and 40 minutes until the removal date on Sunday at 11.40. The movie was posted on Yahoo users' pages that allow visitors to upload content without being even registered, every user being able to publish any type of content. Digital Chosunilbo reported the video had almost one minute and was posted at 6 p.m. on Yammy, a webpage owned by the giant portal Yahoo.
"The one-minute clip was posted at around 6 p.m. on Yammy, Yahoo's UCC site, which does not require log-in or adult authentication from viewers, so children would have had unlimited access. Presumed to have come from a Japanese adult site, the clip rapidly attracted some 25,000 viewers, sending it to the top of the automated "most popular video" list. Yahoo Korea did not find out about the clip, belatedly deleting it at 11:40 p.m., five hours and 40 minutes after it was first posted, when the press had been alerted. Yahoo Korea apologized Monday and suspended the video posting function," the publication reported.
The same source sustained the Cyber Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police are already investigating the issue, tracking a suspect IP possessor who risks one year in prison and a huge fine.
This is surely not the first problem caused by the pornographic content uploaded on Yahoo's page, so I guess the company really needs to hire new personnel to filter the uploaded content. This situation is somehow similar to the ones encountered by Google, the company that was often criticized for the content published on its YouTube. As you surely know, YouTube, the recently acquired online video service, posted numerous clips that made other companies sue the giant portal for uploading videos without authorization.
