Flash preview player for image search

Yahoo recently introduced a new flash preview player for its image search technology that allows users to browse the results quicker and easier. Basically, the new function is available only for Yahoo Japan and is based on a Flash Player that opens a new window able to show the pictures as a slideshow. Although the company didn't officially announce it, I really expect to see this flash player in the main version of Yahoo Image Search soon.

"Notice of the image overlaid on the other results and a little player came up at the bottom. The player lets you close out, go back, go forward, play or get more information about the picture. Will this be coming to Yahoo! Images USA, I doubt it. FYI, Yahoo! Pictures is closing down for Yahoo! owned, Flickr. Flickr images already show up in Yahoo! Search for image related searches. Flickr sports a neat Flash slideshow player, that is something like this, but not exactly," Search Engine Roundtable reported today.

In the recent period, Yahoo worked a lot on its search technologies, trying to make them powerful enough to compete with the search giant Google. As you might know, the Mountain View company also tried to create a new version of the Image Search technology but the search giant attracted a considerable amount of criticism. At this time, Yahoo is somehow similar to Google because it doesn't display the picture's dimensions but, in comparison with the search giant, it shows them in the main window of the SERP.

Since the end of last year, Yahoo Japan was somehow similar to Google's Searchmash because the giant portal used this search engine to test the latest functions before implementing them in the main solution. As you might know, Google uses Searchmash, a different search engine, to test all the features before they are implemented into the search giant.
