Several customers of BT, one of the world's leading providers of communications solutions and services, were faced with an email meltdown after a Yahoo security update. The security update glitch has affected the BT Yahoo customers who use their own domain names to send email. The exact number of users hasn't been disclosed by the communications company, but it's probable to be in the number of thousands.

Customers who have tried to access their email accounts have noticed that they couldn't do that. Instead of login to their accounts, an error message was displayed, asking them to follow a link to "validate their domain". A spokesperson for the provider of communications solutions has admitted that a small number of users have been affected, "for a couple of days". He also added that: "We have people fixing a problem for a small number of customers who use BT Yahoo. The problem is quite small and is not affecting everyone. Some people's BT Yahoo accounts are working and others are not."

Contrary to the company's statements, a number of BT Yahoo customers have posted messages on the Internet, according to which the connection problem had been existent since March 11. At the moment, the upgrade problem seems to have been removed, although BT has warned its customers that the upgrade is going to be released again. The upgrade is considered to be of significant importance, as Yahoo meant it as an anti-spamming measure.

Security measurements for anti-spamming are one of Yahoo's main concerns, as a large number of spamming schemes have been recently discovered. Yahoo has warned its customers of not falling for spam messages meant for phishing purposes. In the meanwhile, BT has apologized for the inconvenience and Yahoo has created a webpage to clarify the process.
