Once in a while, an IT player or another will come out and claim to have built the ultimate specimen in a line of products, and this once it seems Xtreamer chose to do something of the sort on the multimedia PC market.

The thing about the international PC market is that, over the past decades, it has become very diverse.

Where once there were only one or two sorts of computers, which were weaker than today's smartphones, there are now a myriad of different sorts of products.

The division between desktops and laptops is just the more obvious example, as one could classify all computers based on their intended purpose.

Basically, one should be able to find systems optimized for basic tasks, gaming, overclocking, mobility, storage, professional applications, multimedia, etc.

Multimedia-centric systems are known for their more compact form factors, with nettops and HTPCs being the more common incarnations of such machines.

Xtreamer, a company known for its media players and streaming storage devices, has now revealed a member of the former category.

Dubbed Xtreamer Ultra, it is, basically, an Atom-based computer equipped with NVIDIA's ION graphics processing unit.

The dual-core Intel Atom D525 central processing unit (CPU) is backed up by a full 4 GB of RAM (random access memory).

Support for a 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch HDD is, of course, available, and the GPU itself, with 512 MB of dedicated memory, enables Full HD playback (1,080p video support).

Other specifications include six USB 2.0 ports, DVI, HDMI, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet and eSATA, plus an active cooler (24 dBA noise), a pre-installed OS (Windows 7 or Linux) and an USB drive included in the as yet unpriced bundle.

Those seeking more info can simply go to the official product page, though the actual launch will only happen at CeBIT, 2011 (March 1-5).
