Rumors about Canadian carrier Rogers launching the Xperia arc and Xperia Play in the country emerged a few days ago, but no certain dates were unveiled.

However, following yesterday's announcements made by Rogers and Sony Ericsson officials during a party event, Xperia arc and Xperia Play have been confirmed and will be launched on the market on April 28th.

Furthermore, Canadian customers who wish to pre-order one of the two Android smartphones can do so from the carrier's web store.

New or existing Rogers customers will have to pay $99.99 for either of the two handsets and sign a 3-years voice and data agreement with minimum combined monthly service fee of $45.

Those who do not want be tied to a long-term contract will have to pay $549.99 upfront for Xperia arc or Xperia Play.

The carrier also throws in 'free shipping' for all customers who pre-order the Xperia Play or arc online.

Officially introduced by Peter Farmer of Sony Ericsson and Raj Doshi, Rogers Wireless VP of devices and project management, Xperia Play and Xperia arc will be available in Canada exclusively through Rogers, although there are no further details regarding the exclusivity timeline.

As a reminder, Xperia arc is powered by a single 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor (with Adreno 205 GPU) and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform.

Xperia Play comes with a slightly smaller 4.0-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 480 x 854 pixels resolution.

The device allows users to play PlayStation Suite games and is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, touch focus and image stabilization.

As a quick note, it is worth mentioning that Rogers' offer will expire on May 2nd or while the quantities last, so potential customers should hurry if they want to get any of the two Sony Ericsson smartphones.
