One step closer to the official launch

A few weeks ago, on September 18, we informed you that Xperia X1, the uber expected and highly mediated smartphone from Sony Ericsson, would be launched on September 30. Unfortunately, that date came and went, yet the phone still did not appear on store shelves.

The device is featured on Sony Ericsson's website, but it's still untouchable, and this is far from good news. The only thing you can do at this point is to pre-order it but, for some, this waiting is proving truly unpleasant.

However, more information on the Xperia X1 is available on the FCC’s official page, along with what is perhaps even more important, namely confirmation that the X1 got the FCC approval.

What this practically means is that the smartphone will eventually hit US stores by the end of 2008, so the waiting will not be that long, after all. On the other hand, the phone will most likely be first made available in Europe, since the model tested by the FCC was referred to as X1i, hinting at a device designed for Europe in Sony Ericsson terms. Whichever might be the case, one thing is for sure, and that is that the smartphone will eventually reach you, no matter where you are, sooner or later, but preferably the former.

As far as specs go, the X1 will bring a high resolution (800 x 480 pixels), 3-inch clear wide display with OLED optical touchscreen for easy interfacing with the device. Designed as an arc-slider with a full QWERTY keyboard for easy typing, it uses Windows Mobile 6.1, while SE took care of the interface, making it quite easy to use. Furthermore, the interface features nine square icons, actually nine miniature high resolution screen captures of the application it launches, while offering you the possibility to customize each and every one of them according to your needs, which should come in handy for most users.

Another useful thing that is also found on the FCC page is the phone's manual. You can find and save the PDF here.
