Mobile phone users in India can now purchase not only the dual-SIM version of the Sony Xperia E1 smartphone, but also the single-SIM variant of the device, as retailers have started to add it to their offerings.

The smartphone can now be seen on Flipkart’s website with a price tag of Rs. 8,990 ($147 / €106) attached to it for the Black and White versions, though it is listed as out of stock for the time being. The Purple variant, however, is up for grabs at Rs. 9,990 ($163 / €118).

Previously, the handset had been said to arrive on shelves in India towards the end of this month, despite the fact that Xperia E1 Dual landed in India several days ago, currently being priced at Rs. 9,740 ($159/€115) in Black and White at said retailer. The Purple version costs Rs. 9,990.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the single- and dual-SIM versions of the Xperia E1 are almost identical, with the main difference between them being the support for an extra SIM card included in the latter.

Xperia E1 was made official with a 4-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a WVGA (480 x 800 pixels) resolution, as well as with a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon MSM8210 processor inside, with Adreno 302 graphics.

The handset also features 512MB of RAM, along with 4GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

The mobile phone also features a 3-megapixel camera on the back, a 1700mAh battery inside, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS receiver, FM Radio, and the usual set of sensors.

Sony launched the Xperia E1 with the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top, but might provide its users with an upgrade to a newer platform version in the not too distant future.

Until that happens, however, those who purchase the smartphone will see a small update coming to them shortly, as Sony has already received the necessary certification for it.

As XperiaBlog notes, the Xperia E1 will taste the new firmware refresh as version 20.0.A.1.12, while the Xperia E1 dual is set to receive it as build number 20.0.B.0.74.

While no specific details on what these updates will be all about have been provided as of now, users should expect only a series of minor enhancements to be included.

There’s no telling when Sony starts rolling out the update, through the company will certainly offer specifics on the matter very soon, so stay tuned to learn the news.
