Last week, Japanese manufacturer Sharp announced two new devices, a tablet and a smartphone, which came came sporting IGZO displays.

IGZO panel manufacturers use indium gallium zinc oxide semiconductor materials to produce this type of thin screens with great color accuracy and excellent viewing angles. And on top of everything, they are power efficient.

But the great news is, it appears IGZO screens will become more and more common (actually Apple’s iPad Air is rumored to have an IGZO display).

Now sources coming out of Asia (via Sankeibiz) claim popular smartphone maker Xiaomi has placed a large order (one million units per month according to their source) of small- and medium-sized IGZO panels.

Couple this information with earlier rumors which claim Xiaomi is working on a 7-inch slate and you get a winning combo. Imagine a 7-inch slate with an IGZO display a quad-core MediaTek MT8125 CPU and an impressive 13MP camera (capable of recording video in 1080p) and a super affordable price-tag. It does sound good, doesn't it?

Apparently, the Xiaomi slate will make its debut somewhere in August.
