Back at IFA 2014, Samsung had quite a big surprise in store for us, although we sort of saw it coming. On the grounds in Berlin, the Korean tech giant pulled the veil off the Galaxy Note Edge, a smartphone with a curved display on the side, adapted to display notifications.

Since the Galaxy Note Edge has sparked quite a controversy with consumers, it’s natural to expect that other manufacturers will become interested in building similar models.

Xiaomi might be soon looking to challenge Samsung

Now Gizmo China has posted a photograph which showcases a purported Xiaomi smartphone which is being touted as the Xiaomi Arch. What does the handset have in common with the Galaxy Note Edge?

Unlike Samsung’s new handset, the Xiaomi Arch apparently takes advantage of two curved edges, not just one.

The poster apparently claims the Xiaomi Arch is the world’s first dual curved screen smartphone. It appears the smaller displays will serve the same purposes as the ones on the Galaxy Edge, meaning they will display notifications for messages, missed calls and such.

The overall design of the handset retains most of the characteristics of the “Mi” brand and you can spot three capacitive buttons living at the bottom.

Anyhow, keep in mind that the Xiaomi Arch only showed up in a poster, so it doesn't mean you’ll be seeing it on the market anytime soon.

Samsung might soon unveil a dual curved display smartphone

On the other hand, CES 2015 is approaching at fast speed and Samsung might unveil its upcoming flagship Galaxy S6 smartphone.

Word on the street has it that the Galaxy S6 might arrive on the market with a dual curved display design, exactly like we’re seeing with the Xiaomi Arch.

Given the fact that Samsung already launched the Galaxy Note Edge on the market, it wouldn’t be a stretch to think that several months later the company is ready to roll out a successor with dual curved displays.

As for Xiaomi, we have no clue if such a device is in the company’s cards or not. We’ll just have to wait and see.
