The development team at Microsoft working on the Project Spark game creation suite says that the tools included in the package are powerful enough that they will allow players to create full game experiences that are as complex as AAA titles.

Michael Saxs Persson, the leader of Team Dakota, tells The Official Xbox Magazine that one member of his studio has used the included tools to re-create X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, one of the classic gaming experiences of the ‘90s.

He tells The Official Xbox Magazine that, “We often challenge ourselves to reconstruct popular games. One of our guys did X-Wing vs TIE Fighter – every power up was included and the X-Wing was fully functioning. Somebody else did Force Unleashed, just to see if it could be done.”

Project Spark is designed to give those who buy the Xbox One a simple way to create and then share experiences with their friends.

The team has not previously hinted that the project is powerful enough to allow for the recreation of recent AAA titles.

The executive adds, “One of the engineers, she made, like, this 40-minute epic quest. I can’t remember the last time I saw something like that. Perhaps Final Fantasy back in the '90s?”

The Project Spark concept was demoed during E3 2013, but the team at Microsoft has not yet offered a full list of the included tools.

After initially being criticized for its lack of support for indie teams, the company has announced that all Xbox One consoles shipped to players can be used for game development, with a number of new features that will be revealed during the Gamescom event in Germany.

The new Microsoft home console will be launched on all major markets in November of this year and will compete with the PlayStation 4 from Sony.
