The two consoles can create complex new communities

Matthew DiPietro, the leader of the marketing division at Twitch, believes that his company needs to continue to focus on the newly launched Xbox One from Microsoft and PlayStation 4 from Sony because they offer unique opportunities for streaming.

He is quoted by CVG as saying that, “The PS4 launched, what, two months ago with some broadcasting functionality baked into it. We’re seeing those numbers are astonishing, about 20 percent of our broadcaster base already, just in the last two months, is on PS4.”

When the statistic was first revealed, some claimed that PlayStation 4 streamers had small audiences and were just testing out the feature of the Sony console.

DiPietro believes that more people are watching those streams and that, as more titles launch for next gen devices, the number will increase even more, especially when AAA experiences are available.

He adds, “And then when Xbox One comes out, that’s gonna be really exciting too. The two consoles together with Twitch functionality could really be a true game changer for us in the future.”

Microsoft wanted to offer Twitch integration for its own device on launch, but it has recently explained that the app will only be available later in 2014.

The streaming service is also launching a new SDK that allows users to create more complex streams using their own meta-data, showing the best monster battles from one game and generally tailoring content to their audiences.

Both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 are being billed as the first home consoles that have a social component and Sony and Microsoft want gamers to allow their friends to see as much of their own playtime as possible.

A sense of community helps the two companies because it makes sure that users remain involved with their platforms in the long term.
