You can get the notebook with 500GB and with/without Kinect

If you’re an Xbox One owner, maybe you are familiar with James “DarkUncle” Terry’s efforts of turning a regular console into a more portable version (aka laptop).

Back in 2013, Terry designed one for a private client and now modder Ed Zarick is bringing in the helping hands of a Markebot Replicator 2 3D printer to create a more portable version of your beloved Xbox One.

Zarick calls his concoctions XBOOKs and says he created quite a few XBOOK 360s over the last two years, probably around 30.

But the Xbox 360 has been pushed into the shadow with the advent of the Xbox One, so he has taken upon himself the endeavor of building the first laptop based on the system.

Introducing the first Xbox One laptop

The new laptop has been crafted using a combination of 3D printing (as we told you above), laser, and CNC routers for creating an acrylic housing.

Inside lies the Xbox One untouched and unharmed, but our creator has outfitted it with a low-profile cooling wrap and connected it to an integrated 22-inch 1080p display with a slot-loading Blu-ray drive at the front edge.

For comparison, the previous XBOOK 360 came with a 19-inch display with 720p screen. But Zarick wanted to go larger, because bigger is better, so he used a 22-inch LED LCD monitor for the new version.

The laptop is devoid of an actual battery

But unlike mainstream laptops that take advantage of an internal battery, the new XBOOK doesn’t have one. That means that in order to play an actual game on the device, you’ll be bound to be in the vicinity of an AC outlet. Not so much portability after all.

However, considering that some folks can’t stand being apart from their Xbox One, playing on the laptop in a hotel room might not be such a big sacrifice to make after all.

Zarick offers a full window into how to build the laptop, so those who are handy with this kind of stuff might get inspired and maybe try and build a variation of their own.

You might be able to save some money while doing so, because the XBOOK won’t come cheap. If you fancy one, you’ll have to take out of the bank at least $1,500 / €1,157.

This price is comparable to the rates at which dedicated gaming notebooks today sell on the market, but a 22-inch device like this is truly something special. Although, let’s face it – you won’t be able to carry it around with you all day long.
