Online services have begun to play a major role for all consoles, as a lot of customers are now basing their decisions on the advantages they can have once the device has been connected to the Internet. Despite all their combined efforts, the PlayStation 3 and the Wii can't really touch the Xbox 360's extremely solid Live service.

Despite having two types of membership, the free Silver and the priced Gold one, the service offers some very interesting features, besides the multiplayer support for any games that appear on the consoles. From the Netflix deal, from which Gold subscribers get their favorite movies streamed in the privacy of their homes, to the exclusive content for which Microsoft paid a lot of money, like the recent The Lost and Damned DLC (Downloadable Content) episode for Grand Theft Auto IV, gamers have a wide array of options to choose from.

Now, as a recent survey showed that only half of Xbox 360 users go for the Gold membership, the North American company has employed a temporary price cut on the yearly fee it charges players with to use all of the features that come with the paid membership. Gamers will now be able to enjoy full multiplayer support plus a variety of new things for just 39.99 dollars a year.

“We are currently running a promotion in-dash that gives Silver members a special opportunity to upgrade to the full benefits of Gold membership at a reduced price for a limited time,” said a Microsoft representative. “While there are occasional price promotions offered for our service, we're confident our 12-month Gold members realize the tremendous entertainment value provided for just over $4 per month.”

This is a great chance for players who have been delaying their purchase of the Gold membership and will surely generate a lot of new deals for Microsoft. Hopefully this will also translate into a better quality of services and the introduction of new features soon.
