Fewer and better exclusive games are the target for the Xbox 360

Microsoft has once again talked about exclusive games, emphasizing that, while it’s definitely lagging behind Sony’s PlayStation 3, its own Xbox 360 console will continue to get some quality exclusive titles in the future.

The Xbox 360 has seen a pretty big transformation over the last year or so, with the Kinect heralding a new interface that focuses more on entertainment as a whole, with TV on demand and other such features, and less on video games.

Seeing as how 2012 will mark the release of only a few exclusive games, including Halo 4, Fable: The Journey, or Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, Xbox Corporate Vice President Phil Spencer talked about the effort it takes to work out and develop an exclusive game.

"Creating core IP, as many first-and third-parties have seen over the years, isn't an easy thing," Spencer told Game Informer magazine, via GameZone. "I went through the process of creating Gears with Epic and I know the sweat, time, and effort that went into it. I also worked on things like Alan Wake, Too Human, Crackdown, and stuff that didn't hit the same level of success, but had an equal amount of sweat equity and heart go into getting created."

This work will continue in the near future with partners that we already know about, like Crytek, but also studios that haven’t been announced, according to Spencer.

"So it will continue to be something that we focus on with new partners like Crytek and new people that aren't announced yet. We do think that it's fundamental that core gamers look at 360 as the place they want to play games."

Last but not least, Spencer highlighted that Xbox 360 exclusives were more a matter of quality over quantity, saying that, "I do think that it's [about] quality and impact, not number of releases in a year."

What do you think Xbox 360 owners? Have the exclusive games delighted you so far or do you want more titles, like on the PlayStation 3?
