The Xbox 360 is closer and closer to selling more than the PlayStation 3 for a full month, while also abandoning the pretense of challenging the domination of the Nintendo Wii amongst the big gaming consoles out there.

The Nintendo DS managed to be the best seller overall again, with over 57,000 units sold, which means that the console drooped some 3,000 units in one week. The biggest rival of the Nintendo made handheld, the PlayStation Portable, still holds on to the third spot in the hardware chart, with just 25,000 units sold. On October 6, Japan is expected to witness the launch of the PSP-3000, a new hardware specification set to boost sales and help the Sony made device make a run for the top spot.

The second place went to the Nintendo Wii, which dropped sales by almost as much as the DS to reach an overall weekly sales number of a bit over 26,000 units.

The Xbox 360, which has had its price cut, managed to get some 11,291 gaming consoles to players, that is about 2,500 less than during the previous week. Meanwhile, the PlayStation 3 did worse than its older cousin, the PlayStation 2, selling just 8,275 units to 9,848.

A PlayStation 2 title is the best seller in the software charts. The new entry is called Super Robot Wars Z and has managed to sell 366,000 copies in its first week on sale. The game pulls various robot, or rather mecha, characters from a lot of anime titles and puts the player in charge of them in a strategy title with a lot of role playing elements mixed in.

Pokemon Platinum for the Nintendo DS is in second spot, selling 195,000 copies and being well on the way to becoming one of the best selling Pokemon games ever. Rhythm Tengoku Gold for the DS is at third spot.
