With reference clock speeds

Although the Sunnyvale, California-based graphics chip maker Advanced Micro Devices has already announced its new family of graphics processors, with the introduction of the Radeon HD 5000-series, its board partners continue to roll out new cards that are designed on the previous Radeon HD 4000-series. Such is the case with XFX, a graphics card manufacturer that currently offers a wide range of products, based on GPUs from both NVIDIA and AMD, the world's leading vendors of graphics cards. The company has just released a new Radeon HD 4890 model that has been featured with a custom dual-slot cooler.

Although it has been released with not much noise, the new card does provide an interesting choice for desktop PC users looking to boost their PC's graphics performance with one of AMD's high-end, single-GPU solutions. The card features the same reference clock speeds as on reference designs, including the 800 Stream processors, an 850MHz GPU, 1GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 3,600MHz and featuring a 256-bit memory interface.

The new, custom cooler features a single fan and a dual-slot heatsink, providing graphics enthusiasts with the means to boost their card's performance by fine tuning its clock speeds. Aside from the custom cooler, the new card also provides users with support for DirectX 10.1 and the company's CrossFireX multi-GPU technology. It also comes with top plate and dual DVI outputs and requires two six-pin power connectors to run at its full potential.

For those who aren't that keen on enabling DirectX 11 support on their desktop PC, the custom-cooled XFX HD-489X-ZSFC graphics card could be an interesting upgrade choice for desktop PC users. It is already available online at Newegg with a US$195 price tag.
