The core mechanics of the series seem unchanged

Video game developer Firaxis and publisher 2K Games are announcing that they are actively working on an XCOM 2 project, which will apparently be launched on the PC at some point during November of this year.

The information comes from the Twitter account of the United Kingdom branch of the company and has not been confirmed by any other source so far.

Information posted on Reddit claims that XCOM 2 will take place 20 years into the future, in an alternate reality where the aliens have managed to actually invade Earth and the original defensive organization has been forgotten by the population.

Firaxis states that it is making the players become the invaders in the new experience, asking them to use both force and stealth to progress.

XCOM 2 will challenge gamers to deal with limited resources, find new ways to undermine the dominating alien force, and to keep their headquarters moving in order to avoid detection and a confrontation that they cannot win.

Levels in the video game will be created procedurally and gamers will be able to use updated soldier classes and add new layers of customization to those who manage to survive the battles with the aliens.

It seems that the core turn-based structure of the original XCOM will remain largely unchanged, with gamers once again having to move carefully their troops around to get to their objectives.

XCOM 2 will introduce a new layer of narrative to the series

2K Games believes that the new video game can create an even better experience for fans than the original reboot.

Jake Solomon, the creative director of XCOM 2 at Firaxis Games, states, "We’re thrilled to implement long-time fan-requested features such as procedural levels and modding support, as well as adding more of what makes XCOM great like new aliens, enemies and soldier classes."

At the moment, it is unclear whether the recent Advent teaser images delivered by 2K Games are connected to XCOM 2 or if they are linked to another science fiction project.

The publisher and developer Firaxis have not yet offered actual gameplay taken from XCOM 2.
