XBMC, an open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media that is available for multiple platforms, has been updated to version 13.2 Beta 3 and is ready for testing.

The XBMC developers didn't forget about the current development cycle of the XBMC software, now that they've announced the name change to Kodi and a new version, 14.x.

The first build of the new 13.2 branch arrived a couple of weeks ago and the developers have been eerily quiet about it. They usually push updates much faster, but it looks like they are taking their time with this one.

The interesting thing about this release is the fact that they've skipped Beta 2, or at least the announcement for it.

“About two months ago we released our 13.1 version which included several bug fixes compared to the 13.0 release. Because of the fact that not all fixes could be included in that point release, we now are happy to announce a 13.2 beta3 version. We actually skipped the 13.2 beta2 announcement on our websites only mentioned it on our forums and social media.”

“That beta release followed about a two week after the 13.2 beta1. Current beta release includes an additional list of small fixes, that should resolve some of the common problems reported by users. Unfortunately we cannot fix all things reported. Hopefully you will understand,” say the makers of XBMC.

According to the changelog, a number of audio problems with pass-through on OS X have been fixed, a crash that occurred in Android if an app was declared favorite and then uninstalled from the system has been fixed, a crash that happened in Android when entering programs menu with some skins has been corrected, and a bitstream conversion fix for some BD mkv iso rips has been fixed.

Also, the labelcontrols with the autowidth set are no longer always marked as dirty, the included PVR add-on has been updated, the “remote as keyboard” default has been set to true for Android, and FTP TLS is now working properly.

Keep in mind that if you upgrade to this version, you might encounter some problems, especially with the add-ons, which might not work. If you are using any particular add-ons, you might want to wait until the final version of this software is released.

Check out the official announcement for a complete list of new features, updates, and changes. You can download XBMC 13.2 Beta 3 right now from Softpedia.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
