Wortmann AG makes a point of periodically updating its laptop lineup, and while this may not be too different from what all of its rivals on the PC front do, the latest product, dubbed Terra Mobile 1746, may, in fact, be seen as somewhat unusual, through the apparent balance it seeks to strike between performance and price.

Wortmann AG went for a fairly large screen size of 17.3-inches, a size that usually implies hardware that is a fair bit above average.

This once, however, the specifications actually try to stay level in order to prevent the device from losing any semblance of affordability.

Thus, the machine's 17.3-inch screen forgoes the costly Full HD support in favor of a smaller resolution, 1,600 x 900 pixels to be exact.

At the heart of the mobile computer lies an Intel Core i3-330M central processing unit (CPU), whose core clock is of 2.13 GHz.

The Calpella platform is backed up by 3GB of RAM and the product does not have any discrete graphics, relying, instead, on the ones built directly into the CPU itself.

What's more, the machine features a hard disk drive with a storage capacity of 320 GB, as well as a DVD writer.

Other specifications of the Terra Mobile 1746 include Gigabit Ethernet, a 4-in-1 card reader, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi for wireless communications, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, a 6-cell battery and an ExpressCard slot.

Basically, this machine should be able to keep up with whatever document viewing, web surfing and multimedia playback tasks one may wish to engage in, making it suited for business users, but is not exactly close to being named a gaming system, not even remotely.

The new laptop from Wortmann AG has already been listed by online retailers, but shipments have not exactly started yet. Nevertheless, pre-orders can still be set for the price of 643 Euro.
