14 DAY TRIAL // Worms Battlegrounds, the latest entry in the long-running franchise from Team17, has just received a set of release dates for the PS4 and Xbox One platforms, not to mention quite a long list of features, a video, and some screenshots.
The Worms series has been around since 1995 and has delighted tens of millions of fans from around the world across a huge amount of platforms, from the PC to home or portable consoles.
Now, Team17 is bringing the experience onto the PS4 and Xbox One platforms, in the form of Worms Battlegrounds, which has just received a big round of details, a set of release dates, not to mention a video and some screenshots.
First up, Worms Battlegrounds launches on Xbox One worldwide and on PS4 in Europe on May 30, while North American PS4 owners need to wait until June 3. In certain European territories the game will be available as a retail boxed copy, but in most parts of the world it's only coming via digital outlets like PS Store or Xbox Live Marketplace.
The game includes a variety of missions, from 25 single-player story ones to 10 time attack encounters in the special Worm Ops mode. All of them will be scattered across five different environments, from Inca to Viking, Feudal Japan, Industrial Revolution, and Prehistoric, all with complete day to night lighting transitions.
As always, the multiplayer mode is present, allowing for deathmatch and Fort game types both online and locally for up to four players.
On the visuals side, the game runs at a native resolution of 1080p full HD and a framerate of 60fps. There's a landscape editor as well as support for clans, complete with an editor for emblems. There's a new physics system used by various contraptions.
There are 65 weapons, including 10 all-new guns like the Mega Mortar, Gravedigger, or Winged Monkey, and over 200 customization items.
In terms of exclusive features, on the PS4 Worms Battlegrounds uses the DualShock 4's lightbar, as it changes color depending on the scenario the worm goes through, from explosions to drowning or poison. The touch pad can also be used to quickly select between four weapons.
Statistics in Worms Battlegrounds can be admired on a special website for PS4 and via the SmartGlass companion app on Xbox One.
