The two naturally life-long enemies seemed to be an exception in Tokyo but not for long

It is a well-known fact that snakes and rodents are life-long enemies, the reptile being the predator with a special place on its taste buds for the small animals. But, it seemed like Tokyo had its own exception with a hamster and a snake that appeared to be getting along just fine.

Living together in a glass, warmed box, they were kind of twisting nature's laws. The hamster, called Gohan-chan was supposed to be the snake's meal, but the reptile, Ao-chan, refused to eat the little creature. It's not like he wasn't used to eating rodents after being fed with just frozen mice, he just suddenly lost his appetite.

The reptile showed no interest in the furry meal and the owners decided to leave them together to see what happened. The hamster got really comfortable with his predator and quickly became the attraction of Tokyo's Animal Kingdom, until it was discovered that the so-called friendship was a lie.

Ao-chan, the snake without an appetite, refused to eat the rodent not because of his deep care and empathy but because he was preparing to hibernate through the winter. His new pal would have been his first meal when he woke up from his sleep, so the hamster should consider itself lucky after being removed from the snake's box before his awakening.
