According to NY Daily News, the odd contest has already been going on for 25 years. Various breeds, from pugs to chihuahuas can be observed at this unusual canine competition.
Competitors are judged by four main criteria – first impression, what makes them unique, their quirky personality and, last but not least, how the audience reacts to them.
The owner of the lucky winner gets to walk home with a $1,500 (€1,120) prize and the confirmation that their dog is the ugliest in the US. Said owner also gets to eat out and have a meal prepared for them by a well-known chef.
Some of the pets who have entered the contest this year have names such as “Creature with a huge under bite” and “Icky with sporadic wiry fur.”
