Yesterday, UK's Energy and Business Minister Michael Fallon cut the ribbon on the world's second largest offshore wind farm.

The farm sits off the coast of Suffolk, at a distance of over 12 miles (19.3 kilometers) from the shoreline. It is made up of 140 turbines.

Engineers and other specialists who worked on this project expect that these turbines will generate an average of 1,750GWh yearly.

According to Business Green, this is more than enough to meet the energy demands of 415,000 homes.

What is interesting is that this wind farm is expected to double in size by 2017 at the latest, the same source informs us.

Minister Michael Fallon argues that, all things considered, these extension plans prove that the UK is indeed committed to improving on its ecological footprint.

“The offshore wind industry is getting bigger and bigger,” he says.
