They will only make ten pieces a month and, despite being Japan-made, it’s only $300 USD

Everything in Japan is very expensive at launch. Well, mostly everything. Atelier Wazakura’s new Honkawa 2 real-leather keyboard is just 317 USD instead of the expected 3,000 USD.

For European leather lovers, that would be about 250 EUR and that’s a very small price, considering that the luxury accessory is hand-made in Japan and that it uses high-quality natural leather.

Every plastic gimmick launched in the Land of the Rising Sun costs hundreds of dollars at launch, and we always comment on how high the prices are in Japan or in Europe.

It’s quite amazing that a handcrafted luxury device like Atelier Wazakura’s new Honkawa 2 real-leather keyboard is priced below 1,000 USD.

The Honkawa 2 is quite an improvement over the original model that did not feature a numeric keypad.

A higher quality leather is used here, and the material is now finished in oil, while the letters are hand-engraved also.

The Wazakura shop also makes leather mice and they say that this oil finishing gives the Honkawa 2 the trademark amber color.

The color is not quite set, as the leather nuance will change with time, becoming lighter or darker, depending on the conditions it was used in.

Atelier Wazakura offers two versions: one has the letters and numbers hand-engraved on it and costs the above quoted price, and the other is completely unmarked.

The unmarked version is quite a bit cheaper than the normal version, as it costs only 211 USD.

That’s about 169 EUR for the European customers, but considering only 10 pieces will be manufactured per month, they should really hurry and preorder.

The key pitch is rated at just 19mm, while the key stroke is ranged between 3.1 and 3.3 millimeters.
