The Gionee Elife S5.1 came with a 5.15-mm / 0.2-inch frame

When Chinese device maker Vivo introduced the X5 Max, the company said we were dealing with the world’s thinnest smartphone.

And that might as well be true, because the handset boasts a gracious 4.77-mm / 0.18-inch frame. But a short while before the X5 Max arrived in the wild, the title was held by the Oppo R5, which had a 4.85 mm / 0.19 inches frame.

Going back in time, we find that the precedent of Oppo R5 was the Gionee Elife S5.1, also pretty sleek, boasting a 5.15-mm / 0.2-inch frame.

Kazam says the Tornado is still the world's slimmest smartphone

Since the smartphone was launched into the wild, UK firm Kazam has taken the handset under its umbrella and is now rolling out a re-branded version which is being touted the Kazam Tornado 348.

And in order to mark the event, Kazam has launched a pretty steamy promotional video featuring a lady walking around the house in her lingerie.

The video is shot in black and white and seems to put an emphasis on grace and finesse. The girl is ironing her shirt, and surprise-surprise, the smartphone is so thin she doesn't even notice the Tornado lying in the pocket.

Obviously, it’s all a big metaphor and you shouldn't try this at home, but Kazam’s point is pretty clear – the Tornado is so thin and light you won’t even be able to feel it.

The Kazam Tornado 348 still relies on Android KitKat

The new version retains all the original specs the Gionee Elife S5.1 boasted, so it arrives with a 4.8-inch Gorilla Glass display offering 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and 306ppi.

It draws life from an octa-core MediaTek MT6592 CPU clocked at 1.7GHz fitted with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (no microSD card onboard).

The handset has two cameras (8MP on the back and 5MP up in front) and is maintained alive by a 2025 mAh battery.

The Tornado arrives with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, but we have no word on a possible Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

The smartphone also embeds some nifty features like the ability to answer a phone call just by bringing the smartphone to your ear, no tapping involved.

Check out the sensual promo video for the Tornado below. If you decide to pick it up, Kazam is offering it for £249 / $388 / €318.
