Blizzard Entertainment has announced the commencement of the Feast of Winter Veil festival in its massively multiplayer online role-playing game, World of Warcraft.

The Feast of Winter Veil is taking place in every major city throughout Azeroth, Outland, Northrend and Pandaria, and everyone is welcome to join the fun.

Greatfather Winter himself will be waiting to provide a jolly good time for everyone and to dole out exciting gifts for those who share in the merriment. His sack is deep enough to fill everyone's bags with goodies, so don't be a stranger.

The Feast of Winter veil is the annual Christmas event held by the developer, and this year's edition is set to run from December 16 to January 2.

The developer has published the official guide to the Feast of Winter Veil event on Battle.net, providing a one-stop source for everything there is to do, and most importantly, everything that is to get during the two weeks of celebration.

A little bit of lore

The Winter Veil celebration is said to stem from Greatfather Winter, a supernatural being that walks the land late in the seasons, blanketing the land in snow in his wake and providing priceless bounties for those who welcome his presence.

The idea of feasting during the Winter Veil would bring together communities, with members sharing whatever they had to give, with a day of merriment welcoming the change of scenery, in anticipation of the upcoming renewal of the land in spring.

A ton of loot

Special winter hats await for the brave souls who would dare venture into some deadly dungeons, such as The Nexus, Ahn'Kahet: The Old Kingdom, Blackrock Caverns, The Stone Core, Deadmines, The Oculus, Grim Batol or Shadowfang keep.

Of course, they will have to be pried from the cold, dead hands of some bosses, but it's their fault for not giving them up willingly, anyway.

There will also be a number of special quests and activities available for those who wish to take part in some good old fashioned Christmas fun, and a bunch of new merchants and vendors will be able to supply everyone with food and a wide assortment of festive items.

Among them, pet hoarders will be pleased to find a number of exciting seasonal ones, such as Lumpy or Tiny Snowman. A number of toys will also be available for those with a desire to engage in some ludic activities, and there will some neat costumes too.

Of course, last but not least, no Winter Veil would be complete without Snowballs to throw around, or some Ribboned Wrapping paper to put presents for your loved ones in.
