The development team at Blizzard in charge of the future of World of Warcraft is announcing that it is planning to give fans of the MMO more options when it comes to the use of their flying mounts, but with a number of restrictions designed to keep the entire experience balanced.

The company is aiming to introduce a new meta-achievement that will be named Draenor Pathfinder.

In order to get it, gamers will have to become complete masters of the environment of World of Warcraft.

The official announcement states that those interested will have to complete "exploring Draenor’s zones, collecting 100 treasures in Draenor, completing the Draenor Loremaster and Securing Draenor achievements, and raising the three new Tanaan Jungle reputations to Revered. Initially, this achievement will award a relax mount: the Soaring Skyterror, one of the native beasts that roam Draenor’s skies."

Another smaller patch will be delivered afterwards, which will allow those who have become Draenor Pathfinders to use flying mounts on all their characters that are over level 90.

The changes will first be made to the Public Test Realms for World of Warcraft so that Blizzard can get feedback and see their impact. However, the company has not announced when the flying-related modifications will be implemented on the PTR.

World of Warcraft needs to remain balanced

Blizzard says that it does not want to allow gamers to fly around the world with no restrictions because they would miss the moments and the mechanics that make the MMO special.

The same approach will be used for other future content for World of Warcraft, with gamers asked to first explore everything on the ground in order to then be able to use their mounts to take to the skies.

Most fans, especially those who have a lot of high-level characters, will be unhappy with the restrictions that Blizzard is introducing for flying.

World of Warcraft has recently dropped more subscribers but remains the most successful MMO that asks for a monthly payment from gamers.

Blizzard is also working on a major patch labeled 6.2, which is at the moment in testing phase on the PTR.
