This will allow players to use their vampire powers at all times

The development team at CCP working on World of Darkness says that its coming vampire-focused MMO will feature permanent night in order to give players permanent control of their characters and their powers.

Chris McDonough, a senior producer, tells Destructoid that, “It’s called World of Darkness. It’s a game about vampires. Ultimately, it became very convoluted and required a whole host of different systems that we felt was too complicated. People want to play their vampire and, you know, it’s the World of Darkness.”

The mood of the game would have changed too much if the team implemented a full day and night cycle and there were gameplay problems that CCP was unable to solve.

The biggest issue was that players had nothing to do during the day and were unable to make use of their vampire abilities.

Chris McDonough adds, “When is it day and night, and for who? If it happens on a fixed schedule, does that mean that if I live in Russia, it’s always day? Maybe it’s always day time when I’m available to play, so I don’t want to.”

CCP solved all these potential problems in one move by making night the permanent state of World of Darkness.

The game is at the moment in the early stages of development and the team is still establishing the core game mechanics.

Extra detail about the MMO was offered during the recent EVE Fanfest, but the game is not expected to launch in the coming two years.

CCP aims to use the lessons it has learned from EVE Online and apply them to the new game universe, with a complex social interaction system and many opportunities for players to undermine each other and create an intricate web of alliances.

World of Darkness will not feature any crafting and will introduce new playable races after launch.
