What we should expect to get this fall

The best Real Time Strategy title of 2007 is going to be released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles this year - but that's already old news. But we have a few new things to tell you about the console version (which will be launched at the same time with a PC expansion), as well as the release date: 31 October 2008. However, this release date is not the official one - it is just the pre-order listing on Play.com.

According to Czech website Tiscali games, the latest issue of Czech Official Xbox 360 Magazine hosts the first details on World in Conflict: Soviet Assault. As the name suggests and following the complaints from the PC players, we will be able to control the Soviets in this new release and we will also get a brand new campaign where we will be obligated to switch sides.

The game will be completely revamped for the consoles - the conversion being handled by Swordfish Studios. Together with some brand new units, such as a chronoplane and a boat-ship mix based on a prototype model from the 1980s, we will also have the possibility to call reinforcements or new units via voice communication, using the headset. Of course, the traditional methods will still be available.

Now, there is something we can say we are not really excited to hear: even though World in Conflict: Soviet Assault will come with the same single and multiplayer maps (a few new ones), the number of online players has been cut to 10 and there will be no cross-platform play. Still, having in mind that the PC version of the game was flawless, at least if we are judging its gameplay, we are absolutely sure that the console versions will rise to the challenge too.
