According to the latest statistics presented by the US-based Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), September meant a great increase of chip sales, and the total value electronics and other hardware manufacturers spent on semiconductors reached $19.6 million. The result is a very positive one, considering sales in previous quarters.

The total value spent for purchasing semiconductors in this period of time is 5.2% higher than what was announced in August, and compared to the results of September last year, the increase shows a 5.6% mark.

Globally speaking, all continents showed a sequential increase in sales, though Europe and Japan were still down from year to year.

For the third quarter, chip sales made a total of $58.6 billion, which indicates an increase of almost 9% compared to the second quarter, when the sales announced by SIA totaled $55.6 billion.

Semiconductor sales for the first nine months of 2005 reached $167.6 billion, an increase of 6.1% from the first nine months of 2004. Considering the winter sales are just around the corner, it is expected that the figures rise even higher and the total value could reach $226 billion. To meet this conclusion, the industry needs to sell in the current quarter less than it did in Q3.
