If you think that, these days, ASUS is only about the Eee PCs, you couldn't be more wrong if you tried. As proof for that, the computer hardware and consumer electronics manufacturer has unveiled yesterday "the world's slimmest 22-inch widescreen LCD monitor." According to the company, the new product aims to provide users with a high-quality display alternative for today's home entertainment centers.

The new monitor has been developed to combine both style and visual quality in a 22-inch widescreen form factor. The LS221H is only 24.8 millimeters thin, which practically enables ASUS to claim its product is the slimmest 22-inch widescreen display in the world. With a piano-painted glossy black chassis, the LS221H has been designed to bring a plus of style to your regular monitor. ASUS' 22-inch widescreen monitor features a 9H-hardness-rated diamond-cut glass surface that protects against damage and pollutant substances. The anti-reflection glass also provides a 96% transmission rate and a reflective rate of less than 2%, according to ASUS. This should allow users to view clearer images in more vibrant colors. The only thing the LS221H lacks is a decent name, worthy of its stylish design.

As far as technical specifications go, the LS221H is equipped with an ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio of 4000:1 and, the company claims, it can achieve a 2ms response time while delivering sharp, vibrant images at a high quality. Because the monitor comes with a widescreen display, ASUS has also enabled the "Aspect Control" function, which lets users select display modes between full and 4:3 modes. This way, the user will benefit from a perfect true-to-life HD environment.

The LS221H also features ASUS' Splendid Video Intelligence Technology, which is meant to automatically correct and adjust every detail of the image in order to optimize visual quality. Unfortunately, at this moment, no details concerning prices and availability have been made public.

Update: It looks like ASUS has decided to change some of the details of the LS221H LCD monitor. While at first the monitor was said to be 24.8 millimeters thick, a later modification to its specifications list set it at a thinness of 45 millimeters, almost double the initial size.
