For those of you that were, or still are, too busy with the Computex 2008 computer trade show or with Apple's World Wide Developers Conference 2008, you should know that HP is also holding an event, entitled Connecting Your World. Lasting from the 8 until the 11 of June in Berlin, this event is just the place to be if you want to find out more on HP's latest products.

Coming from the Connecting Your World are a number of product releases, among which we can also find HP's new DreamColor display. The new product is said to be a color-critical computer professional display, which HP intends to sell for less than a quarter of the cost of competing offerings. DreamColor display features a new liquid crystal display that is said to provide a range of more than 1 billion colors in a 30-bit, LED-backlit display. This product is now available in the U.S. market at a list price of $3,499.

HP's new display had been designed to offer support to a couple of business sectors, where there's an increasing need for affordable and consistent color accuracy. These sectors include animation, game development, film/video post, broadcast, product design and graphics arts. The product is a result of a two-year collaboration between HP and DreamWorks Animation.

"With the new DreamColor display, HP has broken through barriers that have existed in display technology for the past decade," said Ed Leonard, chief technology officer, DreamWorks Animation. "The new DreamColor display packs a list of significant advances into one amazingly powerful display, enabling an unprecedented level of color management and fidelity in our production process. It's a digital filmmaker's dream."

Apparently, HP's DreamColor display is capable of achieving more than 64 times the colors available on mainstream LCDs. It also comes with a night vision interface that is meant to provide support in darkroom conditions.

"Until now, accurate and standout color has been out of reach for the majority of digital content creators," said Jun Kim, vice president and general manager, Displays, Personal Systems Group, HP. "Our DreamColor display advances color accuracy for the world's storytellers - our most demanding of customers of performance technologies." he further added.
