14 DAY TRIAL // The team behind WordPress application for Android devices has just announced there's a new major release available for download on Google Play Store.
WordPress 2.5 brings lots of new features and improvements, such as new theme browser, better stats, enhanced media handling, gallery support and much more.
First of all, it is worth mentioning developers have been overhauling the stats view and replaced the web-based version with a much faster and better version.
You can now use the filter in the ActionBar to show some of the key stats: Visitors and Views, Totals, Followers & Shares, Clicks, Referrers and Search Engine Terms.
There's also a new WordPress theme browser that allows users to browse for a WordPress.com blog, preview and activate a new theme for it directly from the Android device.
Users will also be able to download additional themes form the “Themes” menu in the navigation drawer. Simply search using the ActionBar and check out the results.
Thanks to the newly added Gallery support, users will be able to create tiled galleries with items from the Media Library. There's no need for photo editing software, developers confirm. You can just long-press to select multiple media items and tap the gallery button to create a new gallery.
Furthermore, WordPress for Android can now access all the files in the Media Library. From there you can edit the Title, Description or Caption of any item. You can now quickly add any media to a post, or upload photos and video from the Android device directly to the Media Library.
PIN Lock is another new feature included in the latest version of WordPress. It allows users to protect their site's content. When the option is enabled, the application will ask you to enter the PIN lock code every time you check back on the application.
In the same piece of news, developers confirmed we should be looking for another major update soon, which will bring WordPress.com Reader and a revamped welcome and blog setup experience.
