The owner of the website is notified via email in case of a breach attempt

WordPress websites are often targeted by cybercriminals and in many cases protecting them is not an easy task. That’s why webmasters should learn how to use clever tools and plugins such as the WordPress Application Firewall (WAF).

The way WAF works is simple. If it detects an attack, a blank webpage is displayed for the attacker, to prevent him from causing damage.

In the meantime, the site’s owner or webmaster receives an email alert that notifies him of the attempt.

WAF’s developer reveals that the email notification is disabled by default, but it can be easily enabled from the Settings panel.

As far as requirements are concerned, the plugin needs WordPress 3.3 or higher to function properly.

One thing that’s worth noting is that WAF can protect websites against the all-too-common cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.
