Isaac Keyet of WordPress.org is happy to announce a ‘big update’ for fans of the open source blog tool and publishing platform powered by PHP and MySQL - a new version of their iOS app is now up for grabs with major new additions.

According to Keyet, the latest WordPress app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad has been in the works for roughly two months, “and we hope you agree with us that it was worth the wait.”

“This is the first app version in a long time where we’re actually adding features, previously we’ve been 100% focused on improving stability, error messages, and help,” Keyet writes.

The development team now feels it’s high time they started adding some long-awaited features, but Keyet promises that efforts to make the app stable as a rock will continue.

Some of the first such user-requested features has materialized in a Quick Photo button in WordPress 2.8 that lets you snap a picture of something and blog about it instantly.

The function will prove extremely useful, WordPress developers believe, because “…instead of picking the blog, and then selecting what you want to do with it, you pick your action first.”

“The thinking is that an app should be all about getting in and out quickly, performing a specific task,” Keyet writes.

WordPress 2.8 iOS also adds Stats. Charts include Daily, Weekly, and Monthly page views. Users can swipe over them to see the others and they can also see Daily Views by date, as well as top Post Views, Referrers, Search Terms, and Clicks for the past 7 days.

WordPress is translated in 10 languages now, including Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Japanese.

Finally, Keyet admits that stability is still an issue with WordPress for iOS. The developers have been able to iron out a few, he notes.
