Dylan Farrow, Mia Farrow and Woody Allen’s adopted daughter, has penned a very scathing letter on the abuse she was subject to as a child at the hands of the film director, whom Mia dated between 1980 and 1992. It is just now that Allen’s attorney is addressing those renewed claims.

Dylan was the object of a very bitter custody fight between Mia and Woody, which started as their relationship fell apart. This happened when Mia found out that he was dating Soon-Yi, her adopted daughter from a previous relationship.

This was also when Dylan first went on the record saying that Woody had molested her when she was just 7 years old, claims that she renewed last week. According to the director’s attorney, Elkan Abramowitz, that story was implanted into Dylan when she was just a child.

As he tells Savanah Guthrie on The Today Show (video below), Mia coached Dylan on the story and, because of it, ruined her life because she got her to think such an ordeal as she describes actually happened to her. It never did though.

“His reaction is one of overwhelming sadness because of what has happened to Dylan. She was a pawn in a huge fight between him and Mia Farrow years ago, and the idea that she was molested was implanted in her by her mother,” Abramowitz says.

“That memory is never going to go away. So the fact that she says this now, that it happened 20 years ago, is totally understandable,” he explains.

He doesn’t think Dylan is lying in saying she was molested by her adoptive father because, most likely, she believes it happened because her mother has been telling her that for years.

As for why Dylan is renewing the claims she first made in 1992, and which were proved unfounded at the time by an official inquiry, Abramowitz has a theory: Mia is mad that Allen is getting so much recognition these days for his work.

“I think that it’s a continuation of Mia Farrow’s desire to hurt Woody Allen. And Woody Allen is now riding fairly high. He got the Golden Globe Award for lifetime achievement, which he totally deserved. And I believe it revived the anger that she has toward him,” he says.

Embedded under The Today video is a statement Mia gave on the case to WNYW Fox 5 in 1992, just so you have both sides of the argument.
