Jessica, a 23-year-old woman from Nottingham is now nominated for the Cosmo Ultimate Survivor Award after managing to trick her attacker into leaving a DNA sample. Reacting with calm and caution, the girl escaped from the arms of a dangerous murderer and then helped police apprehend him.

Price was attacked back in 2011 on an alley in Nottingham while returning home from a night out with friends. The attacker Carl Powell jumped at her from behind, dragged her in a deserted area and started choking the young girl while trying to take advantage of her.

Even in such horrible moments, Jessica managed to maintain her calm and started persuading her attacker to release her. Pretending she liked him, the woman charmed Powell and made him drop his guard.

“I couldn’t breathe - I thought he was going to kill me. But something told me I had to be calm and reach out on a human level. I managed to get his hands from my throat and said, ‘I promise I won’t scream, just let me catch my breath,’” Jessica said according to MailOnline.

Jessica convinced her attacker to smoke a cigarette with her, knowing that it will have his DNA, and that it will help the police catch him. After the attack Powell disappeared, and Jessica immediately called the police telling them what happened and where they could find the cigarette butt with his DNA.

The DNA sample was a match, and Powell was arrested and charged three days later. He was found guilty of multiple charges including the murder of a 28-year-old care worker, Caroline Coyne. The murderer was sentenced to life in prison thanks to Jessica's amazing bravery.

Everyone was amazed by Jessica's strength and courage. It's not every day that you trick a murderer into letting you live, not to mention leaving his guard down. The Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women of the Year Awards 2014 will be held on December 5 at the London Victoria and Albert Museum.
