22-year-old Ashley McDowell is in possession of a $180 piece of wood that cannot access the App Store after being tricked by two individuals into buying what she thought was a genuine Apple tablet computer.

As the story goes, the woman was getting food at McDonald’s at 10 a.m on Monday morning when two men approached her with an Apple iPad and enticed her into buying one for herself.

They said they’d sell her one for $300, but McDowell said she only had $180 on her. The men agreed to sell her an iPad for that amount and handed McDowell a FedEx box that allegedly contained one.

Sadly, when McDowell arrived home and opened the box, she learned she had just spent $180 on a wooden plank.

MSNBC fails to note at which point did McDowell notify authorities of her mishap, but she did reportedly provide the police with a faint description of the men and the vehicle they owned.

According to the woman, the men drove a white Chevy Impala with no rims and untinted windows. One of them had a gold tooth, she said.

Those who believe they’ve seen someone who fits the description provided by McDoweel, or know anything about similar occurrences, are encored to contact CrimeStoppers at 58-CRIME.

On a less serious note, the report also fails to specify whether McDowell was tricked into buying a first-generation or a second-generation wooden iPad.

Not that it would make any difference, but it would have been interesting to see how the two promoted their merchandise to McDowell.

Needless to point out, you shouldn’t buy anything from strangers with metal teeth, and even more so when it comes to expensive Apple gadgetry.
