Getting creative in the workplace is not usually frowned upon. Still, it sometimes happens that one's idea of being imaginative is another one's idea of being downright offensive.

Long story short, it was last week that 32-year-old Charleigh Matice from the US found a swastika inside a McDonald's chicken sandwich she got at a restaurant in Morehead City, North Carolina, and was quite shocked by this discovery.

The swastika, a photo of which is available next to this article, had been drawn in butter on one of the buns by one of the McDonald's employees entrusted with preparing and serving 32-year-old Charleigh Matice's meal.

Talking to the press, the woman explained that she only found the Nazi symbol inside her chicken sandwich because she removed the bun to add some mayonnaise to the mix. Otherwise, she would have eaten it.

“I felt so sick. Did someone think this is a joke?” the 32-year-old woman told the press in an interview, as cited by ABC News. “It took me back for a minute. It was so offensive,” Charleigh Matice went on to comment on this incident.

Having found the swastika drawn in butter on one of the buns used to make her chicken sandwich, the woman went back inside the McDonald's restaurant where she got her meal from and demanded to see the manager.

Eventually, the employee responsible for this incident was identified and laid off. Word has it that, when asked why he thought it was a good idea to decorate a chicken sandwich with a swastika, he said that he did it because he was bored and wanted to have some fun.

32-year-old Charleigh Matice is sorry to have gotten him fired, but maintains that, given the severity of the incident, she simply found it impossible to let this one slide, ignore the Nazi symbol on the bun, and enjoy her chicken sandwich.

Shortly after the creative employee who attempted to turn Charleigh Matice's chicken sandwich into a work of art and failed miserably in the process was sacked, the North Carolina McDonald's restaurant where this incident occurred issued a public apology.

“We are very sorry for the service that our customers received, and to be clear we have terminated the employee who was involved,” McDonald's franchise owner Dulcy Purcell himself said in a statement on the matter at hand.

“We do not tolerate that kind of behavior at McDonald’s, and it’s not what we stand for personally as owners. It is about providing the best level of service and care to our customers, and anything less than that is unacceptable to us,” he added.
