A 23-year-old woman from Hoyland, near Barnsley, put her kitten in the microwave causing its death, because it had attacked her goldfish.

Laura Cunliffe thought the cat, named Mowgli, had attacked her other pet, so she decided to cook the poor kitten in the microwave for five minutes. The animal died shortly after it was removed from the appliance due to radiation.

The RSPCA's representatives said they had never dealt with such a case and labeled it as a horrific act of animal cruelty.

“In the 13 years I have been in the job I have never dealt with a case like this before,” said Lynsey Harris, RSPCA deputy chief inspector, according to the Mirror.

“It is a particularly horrendous case because of the period of suffering for the kitten would have been awful,” she added.

Cunliffe pleaded guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and was granted unconditional bail. The court will sentence her on March 13.
