Ten times the pain of losing a wanted pregnancy for the Indian woman who miscarried all her 10 babies in one night after just 12 weeks of pregnancy. This particular case of multifetal pregnancy set a new record for the Indian doctors.

Anju Kushwaha, from Madhya Predesh province in India, was just twelve weeks pregnant when she went into labor and delivered nine of her babies during the 77 mile (125 kilometers) road until arriving to the hospital. The tenth baby was delivered in an operating theater, and sadly all of the woman's babies were born dead, according to Daily Mail.

The woman was experiencing a multifetal pregnancy, where two or more embryos develop in the womb. The usual number for this kind of pregnancy is two or three, but the woman's decuplets are a rare form, that complicates the whole pregnancy.

This type of gestation occurs when one embryo divides into two parts leading to the birth of two identical twins, or when two separate eggs are fertilized and leads to non-identical twins. If these processes combine they can result in triplets or maybe even more.

Usually, these particular cases are the result of fertility treatments, as in the case of the Indian woman. Mrs. Kushwaha had in fact received fertility treatment and after several embryos were implanted into her womb, the multifetal pregnancy got out of hand. Without regular follow-ups and visits to the doctor, she had no idea of the extent of her problem.

If she had been by seen a gynecologist, there would have been higher chances to save at least some of her unborn babies and reduce the risks these types of complications bring. A multifetal pregnancy reduction would have removed a part of her offspring in order for the others to survive.

The record for delivering the most babies at once is held by a woman in Italy, back in 1971 her doctor claiming to have delivered 15 children in a row, all of them dead.
