A 28-year-old woman from Panama was arrested in Barcelona's El Prat airport, for carrying drugs, implanted in her breasts.

The drug mule was trying to smuggle almost 2 kg of cocaine into Spain, Daily Mail writes. She was searched because police thought she was “acting funny.”

The unidentified traveler came in from Colombia on the Avianca airline. As she was searched, guards found a bandage covering her chest. It was full of blood, as she had recently undergone surgery.

Several bags were inserted underneath her skin, and the botched surgery resulted in her losing a lot of blood. Doctors say that she was hospitalized, and is now stable.

According to a source in law enforcement, she would have died, had it not been for the vigilant airport police officers.

“She was in a very bad state when she arrived. She said she was not in any pain but the wounds looked very bad,” he states.

She confessed to carrying the bags of Class A drugs, and told agents she had been forced to submit herself to surgery.

1.8 kg (4 pounds) of cocaine were removed from her body by doctors at a local hospital. The content of the sealed bags amounts to £240,000 ($388,000 / €296,000) worth of “merchandise.”

Barcelona airport police never came across this method of smuggling drugs before. However, Italian police found a 33-year-old woman with drugs implanted in her breasts and buttocks, in 2011.

She was also searched in an airport, at Rome's Fiumicino. The self-proclaimed model, known only as MFM, dressed provocatively, to go through customs quicker. Unfortunately, her technique backfired, and she was pulled over for questioning.

She got off a flight from Sao Paolo, in Brazil. When officers asked her what the motivation of her trip to South America was, she couldn't respond, and they became suspicious.
