Bethesda and MachineGames confirm that the upcoming Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, the standalone expansion for Wolfenstein: The New Order, needs 40GB of space across all three platforms, i.e. PC, PS4, and Xbox One, as well as the PC system requirements and the times at which the digital version unlocks.

Wolfenstein: The New Order launched last year and delivered a pretty intense, retro first-person shooter experience, putting players in the shoes of B.J. Blazkowicz and throwing them against the Nazi regime in an alternate reality where the Nazis won World War 2.

Since then, the studio and its publishing partner have worked on a special standalone expansion called Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, which is set to appear next week.

Quite a lot of details have appeared in recent times and now MachineGames and Bethesda share some technical details on the Bethblog.

The Old Blood needs 40GB and pre-load is coming

First up, across all three platforms, PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood needs 40GB of free space. There will be pre-load periods on all three devices, so Bethesda advises fans to pre-purchase the game and make sure they transfer the necessary files until its release. The pre-load is already live on Xbox One while PC users have to wait until May 1, and PS4 owners until May 3.

The digital versions of the game start unlocking as early as May 5, 12am ET worldwide for PC, and at the same time in North America on PS4 and Xbox One. Console owners in Europe have to wait until May 5 at 12am local time to play the title.

PC requirements have been tweaked a bit

The studio and the publisher also confirm that the PC requirements for The Old Blood differ slightly from The New Order. The minimum specifications include 4GB of RAM, a GPU like the Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 or AMD Radeon HD 6870, or a powerful CPU clocked at 3.3GHz or more.

Recommended requirements upgrade to 8GB, a GeForce GTX 660 or Radeon R9 280 GPU, and beefier CPUs.
