QuickerTek's USB device that improves wireless performance

MacMerc.com reports that QuickerTek launched on the market an antenna that should boost at least twice the wireless range and signal strength. In the announcement of QuickerTek, only the 12- 15- and 17-inch Apple PowerBooks were mentioned, but their website says that every Mac with USB and wireless capabilities can support the product.

The product's name, Quicky, suggests a quick installation process. This process is quick and easy as this antenna connects trough the USB port. The Quicky is a small product that has the advantage of practicality. Its installation does not require any computer skills, and does not make any permanent modifications to the system. It simply clicks to the PowerBook case and one does not need to open the case and connect to anything inside the computer.

The included antenna helps Quicky boost your wireless RF power from a stock 50 milliwatts to 500 milliwatts - at least ten times the wireless power provided by the PowerBook and the actual fact is that with this built-in antenna, clipped to the PowerBook's case, is up and out of the restrictions of the PowerBook chassis and therefore affords better signal reception.

The installation kit includes Quicky, the antenna, the mounting clip, CD-ROM, an illustrated installation guide and requires Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4. It sells for $225 USD and MacMerc says "ouch" to this price. Can't say they are wrong, but I bet those that really need it would gladly pay than run with their notebooks to "catch the signal".
