It will extend the coverage of an otherwise physical network

It's one thing to buy a range extender when you own a wireless router, but when it's a physical network you need rendered wireless, LAN repeaters are the way to go.

Buffalo has just released one such LAN repeater, called WEX-300 and capable of broadcasting 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi at a speed of 300 Mbps.

It's useful if you want to place a PC in a far-off part of a home and don't want or can't drag a cable all the way over there for some reason.

The repeater still has four LAN ports on the back, so it can play the role of normal switch too. A WPS button exists as well (for Wi-Fi protected setup, providing some security).

In fact, WPA2-PSK (AES), WPA-PSK (AES), WPA/WPA2 mixed PSK (AES) and WEP (128/64bit) encryption is available.

All in all, the Buffalo WEX-300 LAN repeater may not be as fast as some of those dual-band monstrosities we know of (1,900 Mbps is overkill for something like this), but it's good enough for spreading network coverage to every corner of your apartment. Sales will start in April for $49 / €36. Not too much but not too little either, one might say.
