The actor who played the Winter Soldier in Captain America 2, Sebastian Stan, must be thrilled at the news that his character is not only going to make a return to the franchise, but he's also going to be a pivotal element in the story, as part of the newly announced Civil War storyline from Marvel.

This particular story line will see Captain America, aka Steve Rodgers, come to blows with Iron Man, aka Tony Stark, as they have different views on a new law that requires all people with superpowers to get registered.

In this new movie, Stan will reprise his role of Bucky Barnes, the WWII veteran who was friends with Steve but is left for dead during a mission against Hydra back in the day, and emerges years later as the Winter Soldier, an engineered killing machine, whose strength rivals that of Captain America.

Badass Digest claims that they have it on good authority that Winter Soldier will prove essential in the new storyline. Fans have also speculated that the third part of the Captain America franchise will reveal at least part of the Winter Soldier's origin story.

“Sources close to production tell me that not only is the Winter Soldier involved in Civil War, he's a central character in it,” claims the author of the piece after having spoken with an insider. Fans were afraid that the Civil War storyline would mean the Winter Soldier was removed from the latest film, but it seems that the writers have managed to work him in.
