Once could argue that in the last few years not many things have changed in the computer chassis world, as new case designs are extremely rare, although Japanese maker Windy is set to challenge this concept with its Alycon DX2000 that comes with quite an interesting concept when it comes down to cooling.

Looking at it from the outside this doesn't seem to differ to much from all the other computer cases that are available out there, although it does indeed sport one of the nicest and cleanest designs that I have seen in a while.

Taking a look at its specifications list also doesn't reveal much since this comes with three 5.25 and four 3.25 drive bays, the pair of included 2.5-inch bays coming as a nice feature for those users that have gone the SSD route, although this isn't such a surprising addition by any means.

The true surprise however comes only when you take a look inside the case, as Windy has taken quite a different approach when it designed the Alycon DX2000.

As you can certainly see from the picture, although at first sight the case seems like a regular inverted PSU design, the power supply unit actually doesn't sit inside the case, but rather outside.

Going this route, allowed Windy to redirect the airflow from the two 120mm fans that sit in front of the case right towards the GPU cards as well as the motherboard, a special “Stormbringer” unit that is comprised of other two fans being used for providing even more cooling for the graphics card.

Available in silver, black as well as the regular aluminum color, the Alycon DX2000 is available right now for purchase although I can't tell if Windy ever plans to make this available outside of Japan.

As far as pricing goes, the Alycon DX2000 will set you back an impressive $372, price depending on the color you choose as well as the list of accessories that you purchase together with the case.
