Windows Vista has been plagued with compatibility issues from the get go. One of the aspects contributing to the slow adoption of the latest operating system from Microsoft is the fact that Vista has proven incompatible with a range of devices and applications that worked seamlessly with Windows XP, or older versions of Windows. In this regard, Microsoft has confirmed another support problem, this time involving the compatibility between Windows Vista and some versions of the computer BIOS.

Some users have been prompted by: "Error 0xC004F02A - The Software Licensing Service reported that the license is invalid." The error message occurs when users attempt to either install or run Windows Vista. According to Microsoft, the are two explanations for this behavior. One is that the computer BIOS is simply not compatible with the operating system and the other involves and outdated BIOS.

"To resolve this problem, verify that the latest BIOS is installed in the computer. Compare the date of the current BIOS with the date of the latest BIOS that is available from the BIOS manufacturer. You can use the Msinfo32.exe program to determine the BIOS version," advised Microsoft.

In order to access the Msinfo32.exe program you have to click Start, and then, in the Start Menu Search Box, type msinfo32. Identify and execute msinfo32 in the Programs list. You will need to have administrator privileges in order to continue, so when prompted for privilege elevation or confirmation do so. Select System Summary in the Navigation Pane in the System Information dialog box. The BIOS Version/Date will have a value featured next to it in the properties Pane.

Now, armed with this piece of information you will have to head over at the support website of the computer manufacturer and locate a BIOS update and deploy it on your machine.
