On Monday, software giant Microsoft announced the release of a software update for their mobile operating system, Windows Phone, and it seems that some users encountered various problems when it comes to installing it. Apparently, the issues emerged only on Samsung devices, at least this is what some of the latest reports around the Internet and forum posts show.

Both Samsung Omnia 7 and Samsung Focus smartphones seem to be affected by it. However, the mobile phones are not bricked, which is great news.

The issue can be described in a single phrase: “backup gets stuck at 100% (Step 7 of 10) and the update doesn't carry on,” WPCentral notes.

Basically, the desktop software is unable to complete the backup, thus it cannot complete the installation of the new update.

This is only a minor software update pushed out for Windows Phone devices, but it is said to be an important one, since it should smoothen the software update process itself.

This software paves the way for the next update Windows Phone 7 should taste in a matter of weeks, codenamed 'NoDo,' which is expected to bring forth copy&paste features, speed improvements, better Marketplace search, and more.

While no official explanation on why Samsung devices encounter issues with the update was provided, some suggest that the problem might arise from the Zune or the Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac software.

A knowledge base article on Microsoft's website says that the problem could be solved through updating “the Windows Mobile Device Updater (ZuneWmdu.dll) component of the Zune software to version 4.7.1407.0 or later versions.”

However, the issue might be related to something else, and Microsoft offers a series of other details on troubleshooting problems during software update for Windows Phone 7 here.

Hopefully, it won't be too long before Microsoft and Samsung come up with an explanation for the situation, and with a fix as well, so stay tuned to learn more on this.
