AT&T Lumia 900 owners rejoice as Nokia plans to start the rollout of the long-awaited Windows Phone Tango update, also known as build 8773.

Although the carrier confirmed in early July that the update would arrive for the Nokia Lumia 900, there was no mention of an exact release date.

Nokia is also bringing a lot of new enhancements to the Lumia 900. Nokia Lumia users will begin to see software updates for Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh in the coming weeks, which will add several new capabilities to their devices including flip-to-silence.”

Today, the guys over at WPCentral have noticed that the hotly anticipated update has been recently uploaded to Nokia servers, also known as Navifirm.

Unfortunately, there are no details on the availability of the update, but at least we now know it is pending release from Nokia.

According to Nokia’s Navifirm servers, AT&T Lumia 900 smartphone is about to receive an 8779 update, though this could happen anywhere between a few days and a few weeks.

Those who are not familiar with the update’s changes should know that Windows Phone Tango, or build 8779, brings several messaging and multimedia messaging improvements, such as the option to attach multiple pictures, videos, audio notes and ringtones to text messages.

In addition, some exclusive Nokia features will also be added, such as Counters and Contact Share, as well as the ability to silence the smartphone by simply flipping it. Lots of other bug fixes and improvements have been included as well.

We suspect that this will be the last major software update for AT&T Nokia Lumia 900 until Microsoft releases Windows Phone 7.8, which is expected to be announced this fall.

Windows Phone 8 won’t be available for Nokia Lumia 900, so expect the smartphone to be stuck on WP7.8 until it gets discontinued.
